Behcet's Syndrome

Behcet's Syndrome (Behcet's disease, Morbus Behcet, silk road disease) is a form of vasculitis that typically results in lesions and ulcers. Essentially, the immune system, which normally protects the body through controlled inflammation, becomes overactive. This results in outbreaks of uncontrolled inflammation which affects (usually smaller) the blood vessels.

Behcet's Syndrome is named after Hulusi Behcet (1889 - 1948) - a Turkish dermatologist and scientist. He first recognized the symptoms of the disease in one of his patients in 1924 and reported his research in the Journal of Skin and Venereal Diseases in 1936.
