Pubic Symphysis

The pubic symphysis is made of cartilage and joins the superior rami of the right and the left pubic bones. It is located superior to the external genitalia and anterior to the urinary bladder. For males it is located above the penis. The suspensory ligament of the penis attaches to the pubic symphysis. For females it is located above the vulva. The pubic symphysis is in close proximity to the clitoris and slightly movable to allow for passage during childbirth.

Symphysis comes from the greek word "symphysis", which means growing together.
